Reference Photograph Advice

Choosing the right photograph for a pet portrait is essential to capture the true essence of your beloved friend.  I will create your portrait mainly from one photograph but the more you send the more I can capture the character of your pet.  Here are some tips for selecting the best reference photograph from those you already have:

  1. Lighting: Select images taken in natural light, as these will have the most accurate colours and avoid harsh shadows. Photos taken outdoors or near a window typically showcase your pet in the best light.
  2. Focus: Choose a photo where your pet’s eyes are in sharp focus. The eyes are a crucial element in capturing the personality and soul of your pet. Ensure the image is clear and not blurry.
  3. Angles: Look for photos that highlight your pet’s distinct features. A mix of close-up shots of the face and full-body shots can provide a comprehensive view of your pet’s appearance.
  4. Expression: Select a photo that captures your pet in a natural and relaxed state, showcasing their true character. Expressions that are familiar and endearing to you will translate well into the portrait.

By following these guidelines, you can help ensure that I can create a beautiful and accurate representation of your beloved pet.

However, if the pet has sadly passed away, then send me the best photographs that you have, and I’ll surely create a portrait that you’ll love.
